Junior Sail Camp

2025 Junior Sail Camp will open on Monday, April 14 for club members and Monday, April 21 for non-members!

WCSC's Junior Sail Camp provides instruction to juniors from age 8 through 18 (turning 18 in 2025) during two weekends in June. Instruction ranges from novice to advanced sailors in age and size appropriate fleets. Junior camp is a great way for youth to learn the lifelong sport of sailing!

Our 2025 summer camp will be held June 21-22 and 28-29. Prior to camp, a required swim test and orientation will be administered on May 15 and 31. Parents and students must attend one of these dates to be eligible for sail camp!

Spaces will be limited and priority will be given to the children and grandchildren of members and youth club members. Any remaining spaces will be offered to non-member children via a waiting list. Non-club members on the sail camp waitlist will be placed in open sail camp classes beginning April 21st. This allows time for non-club members to plan appropriately. Club members who are interested in sail camp should complete registration and payment before April 21. After April 21, club members will be placed on first come first serve basis with non-club members.

To register for camp there are two easy steps, which must be completed in this order:

1. Complete registration forms via www.wcscsailcamp.com.

2. Make payment here.

Both steps must be completed to confirm registration.

Changes to Junior Sail camp:
WCSC Junior Sail Camp continues to evolve. The administration staff and the instructors are excited to share some of the changes to WCSC Junior Sail Camp for 2025. Each year, we evaluate the successes and challenges of providing the best volunteer led sailing experience for kids.
  • For 2025, the 420’s will be back in service.
  • Flying Scots will be used to help students refine skills in small class settings with an instructor.
  • Smaller class sizes will allow each student to focus on skills.
  • The information presented to each class has been refined. Instructors will deliver content that is specific to a given skill set. For example, instruction for less experienced students will focus more on the specific skills for success within each class.
Classes Available:
  1. Beginning Sailing 1 & 2- Students of any age may attend Beginning Sailing. This class teaches the basics of dinghy rigging, sailing, safety, wind, weather, knots, docking, starting, stopping etc. Students are required to attend this class for 2 or more years prior to advancing to Intermediate Sailing.
  2. Intermediate Sailing 1 & 2– Students of any age that have attended Beginning Sailing and have been advanced by their instructor(s) into intermediate. The intermediate class instruction will include but is not limited to the following; rigging, sail trim, wind reading, basic rules of the road, beginning racing, tactics, etc. Students are required to attend this class for 2 or more years prior to advancing to Advanced Racing.
  3. Advanced Racing–Students must qualify (have been advanced by their instructor(s) into advanced) for Advanced Racing and are usually 15 – 18 yrs of age. Beyond what is taught in the Beginning and Intermediate classes, students learn to race competitively and from here are encouraged to take part in WCSC Centerboard races, other Junior races in the surrounding area, or even to continue their racing careers at the college level.
