Saturday June 20th from 10am – 12:00pm
Please note however that if your student is unable to attend a “Session 1” registration and we have potential participants waiting in line for an open slot, UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE, this can result in your junior not being able to participate in this year’s Junior Sail Camp.
The 2015 junior sail camp will be held for 4 days on July 11 & 12 and July 18 & 19 from 10:00am – 3:00pm each day with the exception of the first day of camp on July 11th. On July 11th, Junior Sail Camp will begin at 9am. There will be an ice cream social and awards held on July 19th at 3:30. RSVP’s for your student and any family members is appreciated and can be done at the session 1 registration or the first weekend of camp.
Western Carolina Sailing Club’s Junior Sail Camp is open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 for both members and non-members. Within the camp there are 4 class opportunities based on prior participation and skill level. You will be asked to select one of the four classes on the registration form so please read the options carefully. If your child has previously attended, please register your child for the class they were last promoted to. (If your junior attended last year, they received a certificate that should identify the class they were promoted to). If you are unsure of what class your child should attend, please email Hanna Curtiss at hannacurtiss2@gmail.com or you can ask on the day of your session 1 registration.
1). Beginning Sailing 1 & 2 - Students of any age may attend Beginning Sailing. This class teaches the basics of dinghy rigging, sailing, safety, wind, weather, knots, docking, starting, stopping etc. Students are required to attend this class for 2 or more years prior to advancing to any of the other classes offered. Class is from 10:00am – 3:00pm, each of the four days.
2). Intermediate Sailing 1 & 2 – Students of any age that have attended Beginning Sailing and have been advanced by their instructor(s) into intermediate. Beginning in 2012, there were certificates of advancement provided to each student that would show the student’s advancement into their new level. If your student has attended the WCSC Junior Sail Program in beginning sailing for 2 or more years, it can be assumed that your child will likely be qualified to advance to intermediate sailing this year and therefore, you should register your junior for this class. The intermediate class instruction will include but is not limited to the following; rigging, sail trim, wind reading, basic rules of the road, beginning racing, tactics, etc. Class is from 10:00am – 3:00pm, each of the four days.
The per-student fee for the four day program is $85 for club members & $220 for non-members. This fee includes:
Sail Camp T-shirt OR Sail Camp Hat (for all students)
