WCSC Bottom job Guidelines

  1. All boat bottom work must be done in the new work area in the bone yard.
  2. Any bottom jobs or bottom work done on Corps of Engineers property will need prior written approval from the Rear Commodore, no exceptions.
  3. A Bottom Job is work of any type on the area below the water line on a boat. It includes any modification to the current paint, epoxy or coating below the waterline of the boat. This includes the application, removal and repair to any bottom coating below the water line.
  4. Proper tenting of boats while materials are applied to the boat must be approved by the Rear Commodore if done outside the bone yard work area.
  5. All debris must be collected in a ‘collection pool’. Sanding dust, removed paint/epoxy/barrier coat debris, sandpaper, paint overspray can’t be allowed to collect on the ground. All debris must be collected at the end of the work day and disposed of properly.
  6. As most of the paint used on bottom jobs can be toxic, vacuum sanders are recommended. Chemical strippers may be used as well, however these pose an even greater risk to the environment and guidelines should be followed more closely to insure that we are not polluting the environment. Respirators are recommended and should be full face mask or at least half face masks with double filters.
  7.  Any infraction of these rules will result in a stiff fine system.  $100 first offense, $250 second offense and possible expulsion on third offense.
  8. Our lease with the Corps of Engineers is very specific regarding environmental impact. These guidelines are required to keep WCSC in adherence to the COE environmental requirements.
