Congratulations to Rick Fontenot, Chris Kafsky and John Kreidler for their bullets this past Sunday.
PRO Marc Bailey greeted the fleet in the skippers meeting where we had 11 boats register. Great turnout for a spring day with a questionable forecast. Either Fleet Captain Eric Seymour is doing a great job in growing the fleet….or everyone wanted to see what Marvin Brinn’s motzo soup was going to taste like.
Before the first race it was spotty and very light. The forecast (if you believe these kind of things) had a NE going to SW and settling in about 3:00pm. As we were sailing around and doing the practice thing, it was already SW-W and filling in. Things were looking up.
First race starts with…a General Recall. Second start is….a General Recall. Calm down people! Marc Bailey shows us the I flag and we do get a race off but still had a couple OCS boats. Several boats separate from the pack and Rick Fontenot on ‘Annakin’ is doing great. By the 2nd leeward mark, both Rick and Chris Miros on ‘Pog Mo Thoin’ (with lovely Karen and the unlovely Alex crewing) meet at the mark at about the same time. Rick was on Starboard with Chris on Port…Rick had rights and pinned the Highlander. I know Chris and team were not happy as I could hear a lot of noise coming from that general area. But hey, rights is rights and that move probably got Rick the bullet. During the last downwind leg and the last upwind leg the breeze was moving towards the left and SW, which meant even though you were lifted 20-30 degrees, you needed to sail the header to get to the new pressure and lift. Rick, Chris and Chris did that, the rest of us, not so much. Rick gets the bullet, Chris was second and John was third.
After Marc squared up the course, start 2 had another OCS boat and Chris Kafsky sailing on ‘Fast Eddie’ with his crew (daughters Reid and Laura Blake) who killed it and won going away. John on Comfortably Numb with crew Greg Torissi got second and Rick was third.
3rd race start was a little funky as the wind did a momentary hard left at the start and George Masson was at the pin, tacked to port and led up the first leg. It was a W1 shorty and John used a following breeze to catch up to both George and the Chris’s on the downwind run. John gets the bullet, Eric Seymour with John Gulyas was second and Chris Miros was third.
A great day on the water with lots of spirited racing followed with Marvin Brinn providing the fleet with Motzo ball soup. Thank you Marvin!
Next race is March 31st, skippers meeting at 11:30 and first gun at 1:00.
Season long series scoring is here.
