Congratulations to John Kreidler and Rick Fontenot (2) for their bullets this past Saturday October 20th.
Apologies for the lateness of the report and scoring, I was out of town until last night. Anyway…
Derek Lord and team got the race course setup for what was forecasted to be pretty breezy. On the way out to the course it was overcast and about W8 at most. But the front had not come thru…yet… First course was a WL2 with a downwind finish. Ronnie Ashmore and Patrick Hopp got off to a nice lead and held on until the end when good breeze came in behind the fleet allowing John Kreidler with Greg Torissi crewing to take the bullet by 11 seconds. Ronnie was second and Chris Miros (with wife Karen and BJ Leonard crewing) on his Highlander was third.
By this time you could start to see spots of blue sky….and breeze coming down the lake. The second race started, a lot of the fleet could see the big righty coming down the lake as the new front was approaching the lake. They all made out well (I did not because I never saw the righty thing approaching) and led around the mark with Rick leading the pack. It’s a terrible feeling to guess wrong and have to head on a knock to the new breeze. As we got the 30 degree righty, the race turned into somewhat of a reach course with Rick tearing it up. We did have some exciting tight reach spinnaker runs with one boat experiencing the B word…as in a very nicely performed broach. Rick got the bullet, John was second and Eric Seymour was third (with Danielle Bruce crewing).
By the start of the third race it was BREEZE on, most of the fleet started and DNF’d or DNS’d with Rick being the only one finishing the race at a shortened mark.
The fleet followed the racing with a nice steak dinner cooked by Jeremy Marsh.
Next Race is Sunday October 28th. Only 2 race dates left for the season. Come out and join us for some spirited racing with a forecast of 10-15 on Sunday. Perfect!
In the year long race, Rick pulls into 2nd with his 2 bullets with Ronnie remaining in first, great job Rick! 4 sailors have qualified, several more can qualify in the next couple race dates.
