Congratulations to Commodore Ronnie Ashmore for his 3 bullets on Saturday.
Write up from Fleet Captain Eric Seymour as I was out of town.
We had 5 boats, 2-FS, 1-Buc, 1-Weta & 1-Hobie 16. The 1st race, WL2, had 7kts wind out of the SW and 10min before the first gun the wind shifted to due West. The boat was favored and pretty much everyone took off right on port tack and pretty much stayed on that tack to the lay line. Ronnie with Joe Martin as crew made windward first with Rick in his Weta rocketing across the top of the course and Will DeHart in hot pursuit. Eric with Chip Walpole made the mark next followed by Marvin with new crew. The wind was pretty much split to the sides going down the course, we all bared away on Starboard and half way down we all jibed to port and took it to the mark. The leeward round was close but orderly and the wind shifted back to the SW and it was pretty much a sled race back to the windward mark. Ronnie & Joe stretched out their lead and crossed the line first just as Eric & Chip were making the leeward rounding. Rick finished next with Will not far behind.
The winds kicked up on the second race to 12kts. WL2. The boat was favored again and Eric got a great start with Will on his Hobie below him. Ronnie and Joe port tacked behind the fleet and went up the left side and caught something and they were gone. Will shot out ahead of me on a wide angle and then tacked over to the right, he had so much wind that he was out on the trapeze hiked out and making it fly. Rick was having similar luck on the Weta. Will made the mark first as we all followed pretty tight. We stayed tight all the way through the leeward rounding with Will & Rick reaching back and forth down the course. Will crossed first with Ronnie then Rick then Eric, we were all in about 4 min to each other at the finish.
The last race the wind had laid back down to 7kts. Only 3 boats raced, Will broke something and Marvin retired. The wind was a steady SW and the puffs were coming in on the left. The boat was still favored. Ronnie and Joe got a slow start but made it up on the course. Ronnie 1st, Rick 2nd and Eric 3rd.
Rick Fontenot has now qualified for the year long series, Eric Seymour has just a couple races to go.
Next race is in the Fall, September 15th. Look for some great outings, food, cook outs and other cool events this fall from Fleet Captain Eric Seymour.
