Friday Dinghy Night
Notice of Race / Sailing Instructions
WCSC Centerboard Fleet plans to host Friday Dinghy Night on the evenings of 25 May, 8 June, 22 June, 6 July, 20 July, 3 August, and 17 August, 2018.
The races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017-2020.
All dinghies are welcome to participate.
No skippers’ meeting will be held. The warning signal of the first race is expected to be at 18:00.
Up to three races will be attempted.
An after-race debrief over a simple meal and refreshments will be held at the club house. Those that participate in the after race party will be asked to chip in to help fund the meal.
The expected race course will be windward-leeward, 2 laps.
Several windward marks will be set to accommodate different wind directions. The mark chosen to serve as a race’s windward mark will be displayed by a placard on the RC signal boat, as well as the number of laps (W1 or W2). Please see Course Diagram.
The leeward mark (small orange tetrahedron) will be set just upwind of the signal boat. All marks are to be left to port.
The start/finish line will be between the staff supporting an orange flag on the signal boat and a red sphere. These races will employ a downwind finish.
The class flag will be a (faded) yellow-green flag.
The start sequence will be THREE minutes. The start sequence sound will be a whistle.
Several seconds prior to the warning signal, several short sounds will be made.
At three minutes before the start, a sound will be made with the raising of the class flag.
At two minutes before the start, a sound will be made with the raising of the prep flag.
At one minute before the start, a long sound will be made with the lowering of the prep flag.
At the start, a sound will be made with the lowering of the class flag.
If RC changes the next leg of the course, the new windward mark to be rounded will be signaled from the RC signal boat. A placard depicting the shape and color of the mark will be displayed.
If RC shortens the course at the leeward mark (at the end of the first downwind leg), the new finish line will be between the RC signal boat and the leeward mark.
