Western Carolina Sailing Club
As the weather cools off and the Hospice Regatta swiftly approaches, there are big projects that need attending at the club. Workday #5 is this Saturday and the focus is going to be the grounds. The last workday we will attend more to the clubhouse and other maintenance issues.
As I'm sure many of you have noticed, we have had a bunch of limbs and whole trees fall during the year. To everyone who has helped clear and cut... Thank You!! The larger task that we need to tackle this weekend is the undergrowth and saplings that are out of control. The Corps of Engineers prohibits the cutting of trees with a diameter greater than 4 inches without their approval, so every 5-8 years a mass clearing of the saplings is necessary before they are too big to cut without approval. This practice not only keeps the club attractive, but helps the remaining trees stay healthy (which cuts down on dead limbs and easily blown over trees).
For Saturday, we will need chainsaws, weed eaters, any tools to cut shrubbery/vines, and lots of people to move the cut debris. I am trying to rent a 12 inch chipper which may need operator/feeders (this may not happen on Saturday as I am having trouble finding one available on that day).
It should be a beautiful day to be at the club, and I look forward to seeing you there!!
