Notice of Race/Sailing Instructions
Labor Day Weekend
Rules - This regatta will be governed by RRS 2009-2012, the prescriptions of the USSailing Association and the sailing instructions.
Eligibility - Open to all WCSC Juniors. Junior eligibility ends the year of the 19th birthday. To clarify, if the sailor turns 19 between and including January 1st or December 31stof 2012 the sailor is not a Junior for the entire year of 2012. Junior sailor must have been eligible for 2012 Junior Sailing Camp whether sailor attended or not.
Registration – Please send an e-mail confirming your intent to compete to Joe Martin at: joemartin1559@gmail.com. Registration deadline is Wednesday, August 29, 2012. There is no registration fee.
Eligible Boats – The Junior Championship will be sailed in Lasers and 420s. Competitors must decide in which boat they will participate by Wednesday, August 29, 2012. The Laser sailors may sail standard full rig,radial or 4.7. WCSC has three Laser Radial and three Laser 4.7 rigs for loaning on a first come basis.
Borrowed Boats – If you will need to borrow a boat for the races please contact me in advance so that appropriate plans can be made to secure boats.
Number of Races – Five will be attempted. One will count if weather does not cooperate.
Schedule of Events –
September 1, 2012 - 0900 Competitors Meeting in Clubhouse
September 1, 2012 - 1000 First Race followed by additional races.
Starting Line/Course Marks – Starting line will be between the orange flag on the Race Committee and a red sphere. Course Marks will be yellow spheres. Both Lasers and 420s will be started together in a common start. The class flag will be identified at the Competitors meeting on Saturday.
Race Course – Windward –Leeward (WL) or Windward-Leeward X2 (WL2). Course description sheet will be provided at the Competitors meeting on Saturday. Course WL or WL2 will be written on white board and displayed from stern of the Race Committee boat prior to the staring sequence.
WL - From Starting Line, to Windward Mark,to Leeward Mark and to the Finish Line.
WL2 - From Starting Line, to Windward Mark, to Leeward Mark, back to the Windward Mark, back to the Leeward Mark and to the Finish Line.
Scoring – Depending on registration trophies will be awarded for both Lasers and 420s. The Junior Championship will be scored using the Portsmouth Handicap System thereby allowing the Overall Junior Champion to come from either the Laser fleet or the 420 fleet. The low point system will be used with no scores being discarded.

Starting Sequence– A two minute sequence will be used. Two long whistles for two minutes, one long and three short for a minute thirty,one long for one minute, three short for thirty seconds, two short for twenty seconds, one short for ten seconds, one short for each five, four, three, two,one and then a long for go.
