June 2nd Centerboard Fleet results

Published on 6/4/2018

Congratulations to John Kreidler for capturing 3 bullets this past Saturday.

Eric Jacobsen was our scheduled PRO who was officiating his first club race as a PRO. Along with sage advice from long time racer and PRO extraordinaire Ed Sherman, Eric did a fantastic job and we thank him (and Ed) and the crew for a great job on Saturday! Thank you guys.

As the day unfolded, I was thinking it was going to be 90+, no wind, lots of powerboat chop and being at the Pirates day sounded like a better day. But, we had consistent breeze all day with southwest breeze of 4-8, maybe 10 a few times. Maybe. Maybe I was dreaming after beating my head against the boat during the runs all day. Anyway, we had 9 boats sign up and another join us on the water, so not a bad turnout. First race starts with about 4-5 and these little righties that you had to look out for. Rick Fontenot on his Weta Trimaran named Annakin and Dennis Fisher on his MC Scow found the righties along with John Kreidler (with Mitchell Brannon crewing), all had good races and separated from the crowd. Rick got the horn, but John on Flying Scot Comfortably Numb got the bullet. Dennis Fisher got second and Rick claimed third.

Second race, once again John get’s a horrible start, but went right again in search of the righty gold, made up for it and got the horn and the bullet. Rick sailed another great race and was second with Steve Kiemele and Margaret crewing on their Bucc 18 got third.

By this time everyone was worn out with the long races in lots of power boat chop with light wind…made for some painful and hot downwind runs. So Eric set a short one lap race with some storm clouds looming. Mitchell Brannon helming John’s boat, wins the pin, immediately tacks and leads wire to wire going away. Great job Mitchell! Rick was second again and Brian Hampton on his Force Five was third. Great job Brian!

A couple notes. Past Commodore Will DeHart on his Hobie 18 was fast, had stereo on board, joined us for race 2 and 3. It was great to see him on the water. Marvin Brinn helming a centerboard boat for the first time since his infamous ‘Dude, where’s my boat?’ incident a few years back, is doing well and coming along becoming more competitive each race. We had a newbie, Peter Adolf join us on a Force Five for all 3 races. Great job Peter! Fleet Captain Eric Seymore is fast with crew Danielle Bruce…, but does the occasional wrong way thing from time to time. When he get’s that figured out and he will, they become an instant threat in every race.

Next race is Saturday June 16 with possible Pizza party (with fleet beer) immediately following in the parking lot. Mark it down on your calendar and make plans to attend.
