Friday Night - Dinghy Nights at WCSC

Dinghy Nights

Every Friday at WCSC while the weather is warm and the daylight is saving.

Ok, so we got off to a bit of a shaky start our first Friday, but we made up for it this week (May 17th).

Around 5:00 or 5:30, five sailors came out to play and commenced rigging a variety of craft including a couple of Lasers, a club 420 (and there are more of those if you want to join in), a Byte CII (sail up, hull down), and a partially water logged Puffer. Rick led the parade in the newly renovated mini signal boat (aka our jon-boat), complete with flags, whistles, and course board. Racing began more or less promptly at 6:00.

Both air and water temps have warmed up nicely, and the breeze was ideal for sailing about on a Friday evening in a small boat. If only Joe had been there to order pizza upon our return, the day would have been perfect.

Well ok, maybe not quite perfect. There was the small issue of the breeze beginning to fade mid-way through the first race and then giving up altogether by the end of the second. But hey, we’re just racing for an excuse to quit a little early on Friday and get out on the lake. (Oh, and sometimes pizza, or maybe grilled burgers!) Towards that end we were thoroughly successful.

Hence, at the end of Race 2, with the finish line merely a stone’s throw from the cluster of gently bobbing erstwhile racers who remained (Ryan having actually crossed the finish and started back), Race Committee took pity (and was also ready to head back to the grill). So we were finished in place and got a comfortable tow back in to the harbor. And who doesn’t like a parade?

After all, to quote the wise Kenneth Grahame, "there is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

See y’all Friday!
